初島港の定期船待合施設「シマテラス初島」が完成
初島第１漁港に建設していた交流広場施設「Shima Terrace（シマテラス）初島」が完成し、４月７日、開所式が開かれました。約３０人が出席し、市長、市議会議長、県会議員、初島区長がテープカットを行いました。
高波などに耐えられるように鉄筋コンクリート造りの交流広場に完成した休憩施設は２階建て。１階部分は定期船の待合所や土産物などの物販コーナー、現金自動預け払い機（ATM）、トイレ、授乳室、管理事務所を配置。２階にも休憩スペースを設け、展望テラスからは富士山や熱海の街並みが望めます。総工費は約３億２６００万円。
２年前に完成予定でしたが、東から西へ進んだ２０１８年７月の台風１２号、同８月の台風１３号の高波被害で設計等を見直し、完成が遅れました。管理は初島漁協が行います。
新藤区長は「台風１２号では、工事中だった交流広場の堤防通路だけでなく、ダイビングセンター、食堂街も大きな被害を受けた。計画の構想から３０年、やっとこの日を迎えられて、島民一同喜んでいる。新型コロナウイルスの影響で観光は厳しいが、終息を信じて初島の活性化に活用していく」と述べました。
